Role of research in social and economic development acceleration cannot be underestimated. Since Kenya envisages to become industrialized by 2030, it has to embrace technology to foster research and innovation. Trained human resource endowed with skills to transform creative ideas or innovations into products/services for commercialization is necessary in the current competitive knowledge- based economy that Kenya finds itself in. In pursuance of this noble goal, the Mombasa Polytechnic University College seeks to contribute towards the achievement of millennium development goals (MDGs) by putting in place necessary infrastructure. Among the initiatives is the establishment of the Directorate of Research, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Extension (RIE&E) to spearhead research and innovation in collaboration with various stakeholders, especially the industrial sector. The University envisages to establish a business incubation centre (BIC) to nurture entrepreneurial skills of TIVET graduates with a long term focus of expanding it to an industrial park. The institution also seeks to remain a centre of excellence by inculcating necessary skills and virtues that are in tandem with the labour market expectations. In its endeavour to achieve the aforementioned targets, the directorate is charged with the following responsibilities:-
